Tåkern nature reserve
Nature reserve
Tåkern is one of Northern Europe's most significant bird lakes.
So far, 278 bird species have been observed at the lake. About 130 bird species breed in the reserve. Examples include the black-headed gull, the brown harrier, and the thrush warbler. Rare species such as the black tern also breed here.
The Tåkern flood meadows cover just over 450 hectares. The flood meadows are so-called calcareous wet meadows with a very diverse flora. Here you can find spring cowslips and several orchids, such as fly orchid, meadow orchid, and honey orchid.
Tåkern is one of Östergötland's most visited nature reserves, and there are many facilities available for you as a visitor. Around the lake, there are four visitor areas: Glänås, Hov, Svälinge, and Väversunda. Visit the county administrative board's website for more information.
