Östgötaleden offers fantastic opportunities for varied nature and cultural experiences through the beautiful landscapes of Östergötland. You can follow the trail through deep mossy forests and rugged wilderness, through the unique oak landscape, over the rolling Östgöta plain, along the shores of Lake Vättern, and in beautiful archipelago environments.
Everyone can enjoy a walk on Östgötaleden! There are over 100 stages of different character and difficulty levels, and with the help of the trail descriptions, you can find something that suits you. There is something for everyone. In addition to various stages, the trail is also developed with loops of different lengths that have the same start and finish.
Östgötaleden website and digital map can be used to plan hiking in advance or as support during the hike. There you will find everything you need to know, whether you want to take a short walk with the kids or embark on a really long adventure. The map contains texts and images that describe the character of the trails and information about starting points and facilities such as rest areas, shelters, and toilets, etc. All sections of Östgötaleden are marked with orange color in nature, on posts and arrows that are easy to follow. An increasing number of our stages are equipped with signposts indicating distances to intermediate and final destinations and facilities such as rest areas, shelters, and more.
Mjölby is a good starting point for both short and long hikes in exciting nature among orchids, glacial traces, and cultural remnants. The stretch between Bleckenstad, about ten kilometers south of Mjölby, and Örbacken Nature Reserve, approximately six kilometers north of Mjölby, is divided into three stages. In the summer of 2020, the trail was extended with a new loop between Mjölby and Sya.
