Åsabackarna nature reserve

Nature reserve

Åsabackarna is a very varied nature reserve with both calcareous dry meadows, calcareous fens, mixed coniferous forest, and swamp forest. The hilly and undulating landscape was sculpted by the last inland ice.

In spring, the backsippor bloom abundantly and by summer, the sun-wort begins to shine in the hills. The pink puktörne is an interesting southern plant. In this floral splendor, many butterflies live, several of which are rare and protected. The dry hills in the south are sparsely populated with junipers and rose hips. A rich dry meadow flora grows on the ground. The low-growing back strawberry and the drought-resistant bridal bread are some of the most common plants.

Åsabackemyren with its surrounding spring flows is a valuable and unusual natural environment. Here, typical calcareous marsh plants grow, such as may lily, blood keys, and spike rush. Additionally, many rare mosses occur, for example, down moss. At the rich marsh Nyhemsmyren, there are also several very special land snails.
