Mjölby heritage center
Heritage center
Beautifully situated on an islet in Svartån lies Mjölby Hembygdsgård. Take a nostalgic journey and visit the nicely constructed environments with clothes, toys, instruments, and much more.
The museum and the houses are owned by Mjölby municipality and are operated voluntarily by the Mjölby local heritage association. The buildings and collections showcase the local history from the 18th century to the present day. Among other things, there is a fine collection of marquetry, which is a hallmark of Mjölby's industrial history. In 1909, Knut Werner Dahlström founded the Mjölby Decoupeurfabrik, which was converted into the Mjölby Intarsia public company in 1917. During the 1930s, large inlays were delivered to, among others, larger passenger ships, bank palaces, and other public buildings.
Every year, the Mjölby local heritage association organizes several events. Everything from springwatch, Midsummer celebrations to Christmas markets. On the island, you will also find the Mjölby hostel and the coffee serving Åttkanten, which is operated by the hostel.
