Högbystenen
Archaological site
You will find the stone Högbystenen north of Högby church. The stone is one of Östergötland's most impressive runestones.
According to the oldest records, the 3.5-meter high stone was built into the sacristy wall of the old church. It is dated to the 11th century, but where it was originally erected is still unclear.
The front of the stone has an inscription reminiscent of many other runestones: "Torgärd erected this stone in memory of Assur, her uncle. He died to the east in Greece." The remarkable thing about the Högby stone is its back; here, a family tree emerges, detailing the fates of these individuals.
