Väderstad Church

Väderstad, Mjölby

Waederstadh and Haerstad was first mentioned in the 1300's. Harstad church was one of Östergötland oldest, on ödekyrkogården are two rune stones that were used as building material in the church.

When Väderstad old church was demolished most of its equipment was sold. Both churches were built in the 1100's. In 1818 the two parishes decided that they would go together. It had been a fairly long-running dispute about where the new church would be built, but  they finally agreed for the sake of fairness to put it right between where the old churches had stood.  The new church was completed in 1837 and inaugurated in 1840.
